Jamie Davis Smith - Photographer Research 

This post is about a photographer called Jamie Davis Smith who lives in Washington DC with her four small children. Her style of photography focuses mainly on her children and the adventures they go on in their everyday lives. Her work has been featured of The Huffington Post, The Washington Post, Shutterfly and many others.

As I said in the context section at the top of this post, Jamie Davis Smith focused most of her work on family and her children. This is evident from the image about which shows a dad dancing with his little girl. The little girl is wearing a ballet skirt which could infer that she likes to dance so her dad is supporting her with that. The Dad has a big smile on his face when looking a his little girl, this gives the viewer a very heart-warming effect as you can see the glow he has form being with his daughter. This image really shows the positive side of family and how happy memories can be made, this inspires me in my own work as I would like to show the positive side of everyday life and the bonds between people. 

This image is also based around the bond and closeness of family in particular siblings. The image above shows two small children entertaining an even smaller baby on a bed. This is a very powerful image that shows the caring and sweet nature of children to their younger siblings even from a very young age. I really like the soft lighting of this photograph as it makes the moment seem a lot more relaxed and almost fantasy like as if it has been set up too look deliberately unrealistic however as this is everyday life photography it means the image was taken in the moment not part of a set up shoot.   

The image above is one that i featured in my research log as it is particularly caught my eye. I really enjoy this photograph due to its slightly comical appearance. The small child is sitting at a table struggling to reach the top, licking the icing off of a cupcake. There is also what appears to be a stuffed monkey sitting at the table with her. This photo really shows the sweet but cheeky side to children, especially with how the little girl is licking the cupcake with a slight grin on her face. 

This photograph seems to show the challenging side of having children, seeing as one child is on the floor and the other is trying to climb into the trolley. This image shows a very mischievous side to the children as they appear to be out to make trouble. As we can see they are in the middle of a supermarket whilst acting up, this could perhaps show how being a parent you never take anytime off as anything could happen anywhere at any time. I like that this image is in black and white as it gives it much more depth and highlights the details much more, it also makes the photograph stand out as its different to the rest.
